Teofimo Lopez And Shakur Stevenson will face off in a fascinating fight in New York at the end of the month. Now former WBO lightweight champion Keyshawn Daviswho fights under the card, has delivered his verdict on the main event.
A three-division world champion, Stevenson has reigned at featherweight, super featherweight and lightweight and now enters the super lightweight scene to take on standout fighter and division champion Lopez.
Yet, although respected for his willingness to confront everyone, Stevenson recently named Davis as a fighter he wouldn’t want to facebecause of their friendship.
However, when asked how Stevenson would fare against Lopez, Davis seemed to insinuate that he was worried his friend would fail, saying Ring Magazine that he expects Lopez to “impose his will” on the WBC lightweight champion as the fight progresses.
“I see it starting slow, then I see Shakur winning the first round, Shakur winning the second round, slowly I think Teofimo is going to start taking it over and start imposing his will and it’s just going to go from there. That’s how I think it’s going to go… One thing I can say, though, Teo can fight.”
On this same map, Davis is in charge of Jamaine Ortiz for his first fight at welterweight since being stripped of the lightweight world title for missing weight. Yet it is suggested that Davis will progress again down the stretch, with a move to the welterweight scene already being touted.
