Jack Black breaks silence on his biggest career regret

If only Black Jack could go back in time!

The actor has had dozens of highlights in his Hollywood career, but one role he turned down tops the list of his biggest regrets when it comes to his time in the film industry.

Jack Black made headlines last year after friends and loved ones reportedly expressed concerns about his lackadaisical attitude towards weight loss in recent years.

The actor triggered a confession session about a film role that he would have liked not to let go of. He revealed that he was offered the role of “Syndrome” in “The Incredibles”, which is one of his favorite films.

Black had initially expressed hesitation in answering the question, saying, “Because the person who got the role, she looks like shit because, Oh, was I a second choice? I was a botched second choice!” Expanding further on his reasons, he admitted that he disagreed with the one-dimensional nature of the character.

He remembers telling the director, Brad Bird, whom he had never heard of at the time, to consider rewriting the character, but the director refused and severed ties with him.

Black, however, put an end to that experience by sharing a valuable lesson he learned during the film’s release. “It was one of the best films ever made. I was like, ‘Why was I so difficult?!'” the actor told CapitalFM hosts.

Well, turning down “Syndrome” wasn’t the end of the road for Black, even though the film has grossed over $600 million since its release and added a sequel and a third, currently in development.

Black found his sauce on the set of “School of Rock” in 2003 and continued his streak on “Shark Tale” in 2004, “King Kong” in 2005, and the double trouble “Nacho Libre” and “The Holiday”, released in 2006.

Two years later, the actor starred in “Kung Fu Panda” and also starred in the film “The Super Mario Bros”, released 15 years later in 2023.

He closed out the year with the Christmas Day release of “Anaconda,” in which his co-star Paul Rudd described the experience of joining Black on set as working with his hero. The actor’s return for another variation of the film “The Super Mario Galaxy” is scheduled for April.

The musician opened up about his band’s decision to cancel their tour after Kyle Gass encouraged the shooter at Donald Trump’s Pennsylvania rally not to miss the target next time.

The statement, made by Gass at his birthday party, immediately sparked an internet uproar and backlash against Black’s band, “Tenacious D,” who was on tour at the time.

He concluded his statement by expressing that after careful consideration, it no longer seemed appropriate to continue with the Tenacious D tour and put all future creative projects on hold.

He later informed Entertainment Tonight in another interview that a hiatus was necessary for the group’s growth, but that a return is inevitable. Gass also apologized for his careless statement, stating:

“What happened is a tragedy, and I am incredibly sorry for my serious lapse in judgment. I deeply apologize to those I have let down and sincerely regret any pain I have caused.”

Black’s approach to staying in shape disappointed those close to him, who were initially optimistic about his decision to finally start living healthier in the new year.

The explosion noted that in January 2025, he excitedly shared a post of himself doing dumbbell presses and promised to follow fitness gurus like Dwayne Johnson.

His friends established that his commitment seven months after this video had turned dark and his trips to the gym had hardly brought positive results.

Sources close to the actor claimed that he indulged in excessive alcohol consumption and unhealthy eating habits, putting him at risk of diabetes and fatty liver disease, which prevents the body from responding properly to insulin.
