Roar of Brisbane and Auckland FC get the ball rolling on matchday 12 of the Australian A League when they face off at Suncorp Stadium on Friday. Michael Valkanis’ men are yet to taste victory against Auckland in their previous four meetings and will head into the weekend looking to end that poor run.
Brisbane Roar’s shaky start to the year continued on Tuesday with a 1-0 loss to Melbourne City at Melbourne Rectangular Stadium.
Thanks for the submission!
Valkanis’ side have now lost three of their last four matches, conceding seven goals and scoring three, after remaining unbeaten in the six games preceding this series (W3, L3).
Despite their recent dip in form, Brisbane Roar remain firmly in the title race, as they sit fourth in the table with 18 points from 12 matches, three points behind this weekend’s visitors in first place.
Like the home side, Auckland FC were denied their first win of the year on Monday when they were held to a 1-1 draw by Macarthur at Campbelltown Stadium.
This followed a 3-1 home defeat to 10-man Newcastle Jets on New Year’s Day, a result which ended their three-game winning streak.
After clinching the title last season, Auckland are on course to defend their crown this season, as they sit at the top of the table, two points above second-placed Sydney FC.
Just three points separate Brisbane and Auckland in the upper echelons of the table, making it an exciting watch at Suncorp Stadium as they continue their title hunt.
While Brisbane have home advantage, Auckland have a superior team on paper, and we’re backing them to extend their unbeaten run in this match.
Prediction: Brisbane Roar 1-2 Auckland FC
Tip 1: Result – Auckland wins
Tip 2: Both teams score – Yes (both teams have scored in eight of Auckland’s last nine matches)
Tip 3: First to score – Auckland (The visitors have scored first in four of their last five outings)
