Fabrizio Romano has now released a major update on an impressive midfield star who could be heading to Manchester United.
While it’s easy to believe he still benefits from the boss’s influence, it’s been over a decade since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson and the Red Devils still haven’t turned the page.
They tried serial winners, former heroes and even the next big thing, Ruben Amorim. All failed. Even with INEOS at the helm and the promise of a new era, Old Trafford’s players found themselves back at square one looking for a new face in the dugout.
It is rinsed and repeated as much as Gary Neville is worried and the Man United legend lamented the ‘Groundhog Day’ taking place at his former club amid talks to name Ole Gunnar Solskjaer provisionally.
“They put Ryan [Giggs] in charge 10 years ago, then Ole became manager and you go back to the old boys, then you pick a new one, then you go for more experience.
“It’s almost like a cycle, like a movie we’ve all seen before and Groundhog Day. What I think is Ole is someone who loves the club, he knows the job, he’s done this job.
It’s a cycle that Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Co. must look to end this summer if they are to turn the club around. Even if it means abandoning the idea of Man United’s ‘DNA’, they need to make the right decision.
Ahead of that, reports suggest Solskjaer could actually get a second stint at the wheel before the focus turns to a more permanent option.
This will hardly be a strong selling point for a potential arrival, but it is unlikely to stop Jason Wilcox and his team from pursuing an impressive midfield star.
According to Romano, who was speaking on GiveMeSport’s Market Madness podcast, Man United are ‘serious contenders’ for Elliot Anderson signing of Nottingham Forest in summer.
The transfer expert said: “He’s very high on Manchester United’s list. Along with Carlos Baleba, there are two, three players that Man United are tracking. I think they will be busy with midfielders in 2026 and Anderson is one of them. I’m sure Anderson will be in the conversation.
“Many clubs are going to be interested in him. Manchester City are also going to be looking for midfielders, let’s see what happens at Chelsea.
“So I think it’s going to be a big battle, but at the moment what I can say is that Man United have mentioned their name a few times internally, so I expect them to be serious contenders.”
It’s easy to see why this interest exists in Anderson. Nottingham Forest man earned incredibly high salary praise from England boss Thomas Tuchel earlier this season, with the German calling him an “elite player” and “one of the best midfielders in the Premier League“.
