Israeli shots killed at least 17 Palestinians and injured dozens of others while thousands of displaced people approached a Gaza Humanitarian Aid distribution site (GHF), in the center of Gaza, local health authorities announced on Tuesday.
The doctors said the victims had been transported to two hospitals, the Al-Awda hospital in Nuseirat Camp in the center of Gaza and the Al Al in Gaza City in the North.
The Israeli army said they were looking for the incident. Last week, he warned the Palestinians not to approach the roads leading to GHF sites between 6 p.m. and 6 am, the local time, describing these roads as closed military areas.
There was no immediate comment from GHF during Tuesday’s incident.
The GHF began to distribute food packages in Gaza at the end of May, supervising a new model of aid distribution which, according to the United Nations, is neither impartial nor neutral.
However, many gasans say they have to walk for hours to reach sites, which means that they have to start traveling well before dawn if they want to have a chance to receive food.
Although the GHF said that there had been no incidents in its so-called secure distribution sites, the Palestinians in search of aid described the disorders and the access routes to the sites were assaulted by chaos and deadly violence.
“I went there at 2 o’clock, hoping to get food, on my way, I saw people come back empty -handed, they said that the aid packages were exhausted in five minutes, it’s crazy and is not enough,” said Mohammad Abu Amr, 40, father of two.
“Tens of thousands arrive from central areas and northern areas, some of them walked over more than 20 km, to go home with disappointment,” he told Reuters via a cat application. He said he heard the dismissal but did not see what had happened.
