Greenlanders worried about Trump’s takeover threats

This week, Donald Trump reiterated his desire to seize Greenland and integrate it into the United States, possibly using military force.

Katya Adler, the BBC’s Europe editor, visited Nuuk, the Arctic island’s capital, to ask locals what they thought of the US president’s renewed threats.

One Greenlander said she thought Trump was “crazy,” while another said locals “just want to be left alone.”

This comes against a backdrop of global superpowers rushing to the Arctic for its strategic defense capabilities, as well as rare earths and other minerals, newly accessible due to melting ice.
