The Russian Defense Ministry said it used a new Oreshnik intermediate-range ballistic missile in a deadly strike against Ukraine on Friday.

Four people were killed and at least 22 injured, according to Ukrainian authorities.

Russia said the attack was retaliation for what Moscow claimed was a Ukrainian drone strike on the residence of Russian President Vladimir Putin last month. Ukraine and President Donald Trump have disputed the claim.

The attack came hours after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy alerted the nation that Russia intended to launch a full-scale offensive.

Zelensky said Russia was seeking to take advantage of the freezing weather in the capital, which was making roads and streets icy.

The missile traveled at a speed of more than 8,000 miles per hour, according to the Ukrainian Air Force’s Western Command.

Several neighborhoods in kyiv were hit in the attack and an emergency medical worker was among the victims, according to the head of the Kyiv city military administration, Tymur Tkachenko.

Ukraine’s security services said five rescue workers were injured while responding to the site of the ongoing attacks.

A drone crashed on the roof of a multi-story building in the Desnyanskyi district and the first two floors of a residential building were also damaged as a result of the attack.

Running water and electricity were interrupted in parts of the capital, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said.
