Terence Crawford secured his place as an all-time great and “Prince” Naseem Hamed was the latest veteran to predict whether “Bud” could have become the first to defeat Floyd Mayweather if their timelines had aligned.
Crawford became the first undisputed three-division champion since Henry Armstrong when he sensationally dethroned super middleweight superstar Canelo Alvarez in September, despite being a former lightweight world champion.
After the victory, the Omaha-born phenom was linked with a move up to middleweight, where he could have won a world title in a sixth weight class, but the 38-year-old instead chose to end his career on a high note and hang up his gloves.
As a result, Crawford’s career has been praised in recent months and his all-time pound-for-pound ranking has been the subject of debate.
Talk to talkSPORT‘Naz’ explained why he thinks Crawford could have potentially knocked out Floyd Mayweather if they had collided in their primes, when asked about the fantasy match.
“Do you know anything? Terence Crawford, to me, he had something else over a lot of other fighters, not only technically, and his boxing brain, his boxing IQ, but he had it in strength.
A certain strength that was inside. It was physical. You would see him grab someone and throw them across the room; it’s four or five times bigger than him.
I don’t know. I’ve never been asked this question. I never really thought about it, but there would be a possibility that he would knock Floyd out.
Keep in mind, though, that Floyd’s skills were at such a high level at his peak.
Although he is often compared to “TBE”, Crawford has always defended Mayweather’s skills, calling him “The GOAT of the moment” when asked where Mayweather ranks compared to his fellow boxing legends.
