FanDuel has been hit with a 350,000 CAD ($252,000) fine from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO). The fine comes as the Canadian branch of the sports gaming giant has failed to combat match-fixing and “suspicious betting”.
The AGCO found that between October 23 and November 30, 2024, 144 bets were placed via FanDuel which came from three Ontario player accounts. The watchdog claims that these 144 bets corresponded to signs of match-fixing.

Despite being forced to alert AGCO, FanDuel allowed the betting to proceed. The signs included a particular focus on two athletes, with bets on them losing, “an implausible and near perfect win rate”, as well as reported “clear links” to suspicious activity on the accounts placing the bets. This includes synced betting.
FanDuel could have avoided the fine if it had reported it to the Independent Integrity Monitors (IIMs). Now, FanDuel is described as “furious” by the New York Postwho spoke with a company spokesperson on the matter: “FanDuel has developed an industry-leading sports integrity monitoring program that combines advanced technology and real-time monitoring with an experienced, dedicated risk management and trading team to identify and investigate suspicious activity in collaboration with leagues, independent integrity monitoring groups, regulators and law enforcement.
The story originally broke via ESPNwho also spoke with a FanDuel spokesperson. They described themselves as “disappointed” by the AGCO’s decision, which has 15 days to appeal.
Following the fine imposed by the AGCO, the Ontario Provincial Police launched their own investigation into the matter. Speaking to ESPN, Chief Superintendent Craig Abrams said: “The Ontario Provincial Police will fully investigate this matter to determine whether any criminal offenses were committed in relation to the 144 bets made from the three Ontario betting accounts.
“This is an active and ongoing investigation. The OPP will not speculate on outcomes while an investigation is ongoing.”
