Canada, alongside four other countries, officially sanctions two Israeli ministers for comments which they believe are “incentives to violence against violence against violence against violence against violence against violence against violence against violence against Palestinian communities. »»
The sanctions were announced by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand and Norway on Tuesday in a joint statement.
The Israeli Minister of National Security Itamar Ben-Gvir and the Minister of Finance Bezalel Smotrich will both see their assets frozen and face travel prohibitions.
The two men are confronted with sanctions to be “responsible, committed, encourage, promote and / or support activity, which is equivalent to a serious abuse of the right not to be subject to a cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment, in particular acts of aggression and violence against Palestinians in the West Bank.”
“Itamar Ben-Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich prompted extremist violence and serious Palestinian human rights”, the joint states, provided by World Affairs of Canada.

The British Foreign Minister David Lammy previously condemned Smotrich’s comments on the possible cleaning and destruction of Gaza and the relocation of its residents in third countries.
He described comments as “extremism”, while also calling it “dangerous” and “monstrous”.
The two Israeli ministers clashed several times with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, both calling for the permanent conquest of Gaza and restoring Jewish colonies, which Israel abandoned in 2005.
The Israeli Foreign Affairs Minister Gideon Saar described the decision by the “scandalous” countries and said the government would hold a special meeting at the start of next week to decide on a response.
Smotrich spoke of “contempt” for Great Britain’s decision in particular.
“Great Britain has already tried to prevent us from adjusting the cradle of our homeland, and we cannot start again. We are determined that God is ready to continue building,” said Smotrich.
The joint declaration on Tuesday, however, seemed to underline his “unshakable support” for the security remains of Israel and condemn the attack of October 7, 2023 by Hamas.
“Today’s measures are intended for people who, in our opinion, undermine the security of Israel and its position in the world,” the statement said. “We continue to want a solid friendship with the people of Israel according to our links, our values and our commitment shared towards their security and our future.”
The decision of the five countries comes as the United Kingdom and other European countries have pressure on Netanyahu to end the aid of Gaza. The press release indicates that they would endeavor to ensure an immediate cease-fire, the release of the remaining hostages and the “flow without hindrance of humanitarian aid, including food”.
