The action continues on turn 12 of Australian A League as Wellington Phoenix to welcome Adelaide United at Wellington Regional Stadium on Saturday. The two teams enter the weekend with contrasting results, with Adelaide suffering a heavy defeat at home to the Central Coast Mariners.
Wellington Phoenix produced a dominant team display last Saturday as they claimed a 3-0 victory over Brisbane Roar at Suncorp Stadium.
Thanks for the submission!
Giancarlo Italiano’s side have won two of their last three matches, with a 5-1 loss to Melbourne Victory on December 29 sandwiched between the two victories, having lost four of the five games preceding this series.
Wellington Phoenix have collected 14 points from their 11 A-League matches so far to sit ninth in the table, one point and one place behind this weekend’s visitors.
Elsewhere, Adelaide United were sent back down to earth last Sunday when they suffered a 4-0 defeat to Central Coast Mariners at Coopers Stadium.
Before that, Ayrton Andrioli’s men ended their three-match losing streak on December 20 with a 1-0 win over Perth Glory, a week before closing out the year with a thrilling 3-2 win over Western Sydney Wanderers.
While Adelaide will look to bounce back this weekend, next up is a trip to Wellington Regional Stadium, where they have failed to win seven of their last eight visits since July 2020.
Wellington Phoenix and Adelaide United find themselves separated by just one point in the bottom half of the table, and we expect both teams to pull out all the stops this weekend to try and secure a playoff spot.
Adelaide’s form on the road currently is nothing to write home about, and we’re backing Wellington Phoenix to come away with all three points.
Prediction: Wellington Phoenix 2-1 Adelaide United
Tip 1: Result – Wellington Phoenix wins
Tip 2: Over 2.5 goals – Yes (There have been at least three goals scored in the last five meetings between the two teams)
Tip 3: Both teams score – Yes (both teams have also scored in their last five meetings)
