Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner said he had “no explanation” for the historic event. FA Cup defeat at sixth-tier Macclesfield.
Paul Dawson and Isaac Buckley-Ricketts condemned Oliver Glasner’s side to a historic defeat against opponents 117 places below them in the football rankings.
Glasner made changes to his team but still had plenty of international experience on the pitch as they were humiliated at Moss Rose.
Glasner said: “We congratulate Macclesfield on their victory.
“We had no quality today and I didn’t see anyone capable of winning a dribble. Then conceding goals from set pieces and timing in headers.
“If you can’t create clear chances, that’s a lack of quality we showed today. We deserve to lose.”
“Honestly, I have no explanation for what I saw today and we can find excuses but we don’t need tactics and a manager for these games.
“So I think if you just show what you’re capable of and show pride, you perform in a different way.”
Palace are the first FA Cup holders to be knocked out by a non-league team since Wolves in 1908-09.
Macclesfield have been superb under the management of John Rooney.
He said: “I can’t believe it, we never thought we would be in this position.
“We were incredible from the first minute. I thought we were deserved winners. I couldn’t be more proud of the guys.
“I couldn’t have asked for more of them and you can see the joy in them.”
