While Ikea is famous for its affordable, assembled furniture that adorns apartments, dorm rooms, and starter homes, you rarely hear about the company in the tech space. While Ikea dabbled in the smart home technology in recent years, its offerings have been limited, temporary, and have often required partnerships with third parties. At CES 2026all that has changed.
It was Ikea’s first THESEwhich is a statement in itself. The Swedish furniture (and meatball) company arrived well prepared and burst onto the stage with ambitious lighting. and security options. This could change the smart home world, and I’m not sure other brands are ready.
Smart lights with a friendly glow
Ikea’s new smart lamps and sockets are a bold step for the company.
One of Ikea’s most visually impressive products was the Heat flash smart home lights (yes, Ikea’s classic names remain even in its technological efforts). You may have already heard of the Varmblixt range, but now Ikea is adding smart technology to these stylish lamps.
The lights come in two varieties. One is a donut shaped ring which you can hang on a wall or place on a nearby table, casting warm light throughout the room in the color of your choice. The other is a draped LED pendant, more comfortable hanging in a corner, with shades available across the white spectrum.

Both lights impressed me, not only because of their unique, very Ikea look, but also for the new app controls that allow you to adjust the brightness and color as desired. They also come with remotes that include a dozen presets, in case your phone isn’t within reach. For some of the first exclusive smart lamps made by Ikea, that’s an impressive showing.
If you’re thinking a little smaller, Ikea’s new smart home has that covered too. THE Berth the line offers 11 styles of smart bulbs you can screw into sockets you already own, converting your old lights into smart app-controlled versions.
Then there is the Barbecue areaA smart socket which allows you to use app controls on any existing plug-in light, as well as other devices like fountains or radiators. What we saw of these app controls at CES seemed easy to learn and effective.

One final note: While this isn’t technically part of the smart home, Ikea also announced Bluetooth cube speakersthat you can connect, stack and experiment with to fill a small space with customizable sound and light.
The Most Affordable Home Security I’ve Seen
Ikea’s security sensors are very affordable.
Even if Ikea does not publish any security cameras (at least not yet), the company has unveiled a range of security sensors, a particularly bold move that offers enough options for most people to convert their home security into a zone completely managed by Ikea.
Sporting wonderful names like Forest fleet, With Alpstu, Clipbok And Mosquito sprayIkea’s smart sensors are all compatible with Matter, meaning you can use them with the Ikea app or popular platforms like Apple Home and Google Home. They include motion sensors, door or window access sensors, air quality sensors, water leak detectors and other options.

The prices are particularly impressive. One of the appeals of Ikea is its affordability, and that same selling point applies to home security. These devices, including smart bulbs and plugs, all cost less than $10 each (Varmblixt lights are an exception, starting at $100).
This makes IKEA one of the most affordable ways I’ve ever seen to set up your own smart security system, even compared to the cheapest. budget systems And DIY kits. If the device’s performance impresses me over time as I test it, Ikea could become one of my go-to recommendations for new home security technology buyers.
Most of these products are available for sale this month, with a few exceptions, such as the Air Quality Sensor, which is scheduled for release in April. If you are interested, you can start building your Ikea smart home as soon as possible.
Is this Ikea’s year in the smart home?
Alongside smart home technology, Ikea is also launching Bluetooth speaker cubes.
I rarely mentioned Ikea in my home technology recommendations. You won’t find Ikea on any list of home product recommendations, aside from its smart blinds several years old. They hadn’t had a significant presence in this area before, especially in the United States. However, 2026 could be the year that changes, as these new deals look seriously competitive.
As I begin testing Ikea’s smart range as new products become available, I’ll let you know if they offer budget-friendly security alternatives and if any end up on our best product lists. Right now, things are looking promising for the Swedish titan.
