Scarlett Johansson is one of the most important actors in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe when she has been filmed by Black Widow, aka Natasha Romanoff for over a decade. The character (spoilers?) Eventually died at the 2019 “Avengers: Endgame” event, and while Johansson returned to the role two years later in the movie “Black Widow” (which happens before “Endgame” in the MCU timeline), he has made a clear black widow himself stays dead. In the past, it seemed that Johansson had since been united with Marvel Studios because he had lowered the main producer’s refund for the 2025 “Thunderbolts*” event. However, it turns out that he tried to remove credit.
Johansson touched this when speaking “Thunderbolts*” star David Harbor, who made his MCU debut in “Black Widow” in the song Interview magazine. They talked the day the “Thunderbolts*” hit the theaters and that they had a good exchange of it. But in the midst of fun, Johansson revealed that he had not even seen the movie at the time and 2) tried to get his name to remove his credits. This is how the exchange went:
Port: It’s the opening day of the movie, which is basically the seventh Thunderbolt. Your character is in this movie. Have you seen it?
Johansso: No
Port: Okay. You are a executive producer in it. Pat on the back.
Johansso: I asked for removal of my credit because I wasn’t involved.
It The role of a film producer may be a scam to explain like a director, for example. Some film producers do not do much and still collect pay. Others are heavily involved in production. In this case, Johansson ended up doing a lot, though it seems that he was not nice to take credit from the resulting movie. This, in turn, invites a group of follow -up questions about what happened behind the scenes.
Clocks back to November 2021. Marvel Studios Head Kevin Feige had just confirmed Johansson intended to produce a mcu projectAlthough it remained secret. It was much later that the mystery project was indeed “Thunderbolts*”, which used several “Black Widow” characters, especially Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh) and Harbor’s Red Guardian.
Although Johansson does not intend to appear on the screen, his contribution to the corner of MCU, he had helped to formulate. Ultimately, Jake Schreier ended in the director’s chair. While the movie was in production, Johansson was busy making films like “Asteroid City”, “Fly Me To Moon”, “Transformers One” and “Phoenician system”. It is also important to remember it Johansson challenged Marvel and Disney’s “Black Widow” release Disney+which Disney settled.
So what happened exactly? Was Johansson too busy with other projects to be practical? Moved out of the creative direction from what he was originally brought to the ship? Was the lawsuit more acidic than we are aware of publicly? Without more information about Johansson, it is difficult to know, but at least in the contractual relationship, Marvel and Disney had to keep the “executive producer” champions at the credits, even if it was against his wishes.
About the future, a ton Marvel actors from the past return 2026 “Avengers: Doomsday” And presumably “Secret Wars” in 2027. However, Johansson has made a crystal clear that he is not one of them. He remains busy, however, leading to the upcoming “Jurassic World Rebirth exhibition, and also several other projects on his job list. This is probably his last flirting with MCU, even if it is only a ceremony.
“Thunderbolts*” is now in theaters.
