Liverpool in talks to sign ‘one of the best LWs in the world’

Against Arsenal, Liverpool looked like a team a little closer to title contenders than has been the case for most of the campaign, showing grit and determination to end the ranking winners’ winning streak in the Premier League.

He signed for Manchester City this week, despite interest from Liverpool and calls from Hughes in November.

It’s a big blow, with the two-way winger showing many of the skills Slot needs within his red front line. But maybe there’s a bigger prize on the horizon.

It’s only been two and a half years since Barcola joined PSG from division rivals Lyon as a raw, untested talent, but he has only gone from strength to strength since the move, having scored 31 goals and provided 34 assists in 126 matches in all competitions.

Hailed as a key part of PSG”world class” Frontlined by journalist Santi Iruleguy, Barcola notched 21 goals and assists each last season en route to a historic quintuple, dazzling with quick footwork and sharp playing skills to complement an insatiable thirst for goals.

But he’s not just a move finisher. According to data-driven platform FBref, the Blues’ talents rank in the top 6% of peers in Europe’s top five leagues over the past year for passing completions, 16% for progressive carries and top 15% for shot creation actions per 90.

This array of qualities, underpinned by a remarkable ability to score and assist in the final third, could even see Barcola take on the role of the new version of Liverpool. Mohamed Salahthe 33-year-old’s decline increasing the need for a new winger.

With Semenyo off the cards, Barcola would perhaps be the perfect addition, capable of producing the goods on the biggest stages in a way not unlike Salah, who has been Liverpool’s ever-present talisman for so many years.

Salah, admittedly, hasn’t been great this year, which is all the more reason for FSG to push for Barcola; with FBref drawing the aforementioned Diaz as one of its most comparable players, thus highlighting further similarities to Salah at his athletic peak.

Barcola, on the other hand, is booming and getting stronger with each season. He still has room for improvement, but that hasn’t stopped analyst Ben Mattinson from declaring him “one of the best left wingers in Europe“.

Whether Salah has played his last game for Liverpool, or whether he will play for the rest of the campaign, or even whether he will see out the rest of the season. his £400,000-a-week contracteverything remains to be seen.

But the plain truth is that Salah is nearing the twilight of his glittering career, and by signing Barcola, Slot would land a new physical and robust talisman with the signs of a clinical edge to rival the Egyptian king.
