Everton crash out of FA Cup in dramatic Sunderland affair

David Moyes has steadied the ship since his arrival at Everton, although they find themselves winless in three after being knocked out of the FA Cup on penalties by Sunderland on Saturday afternoon.

Despite clawing his way back into the affair after James Garner’s late spot-kick forced extra time, Robin Roefs was on hand to send the Toffees to another campaign without silverware.

Everton manager David Moyes celebrates after the match

Yet the Scot made it clear he saw an improvement in Everton’s performance compared to their draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers and home loss to Brentford.

He said after the match: “We did well to get back into the game and held on when we had to. We’re disappointed by the penalties, but that can happen. I didn’t think we were very good in the first half, but we improved in the second half. Still, not to the level we were at in recent weeks, but better in the second half.”

With the transfer window open and plenty to play for in the Premier Leaguethe Toffees want to add extra firepower and Moyes could replace Jorgen Strand Larsen as Wolves move closer to being mathematically relegated.

However, it is unlikely that the forward areas will be the only ones to see improvement as the club looks to the future under the Friedkin Group with an element of stability around their league position and overall level of performance.

Now Moyes could be set to move into a key role following the announcement that Everton are now looking to add an England international to their ranks.

Everton prepare move to sign Arsenal star Ben White

According to Football Insider, Everton considering signing Arsenal defender Ben White and they are open to a January move for the Three Lions star, who is under contract in the capital until 2028 with an option for a further 12 months.

The outlet claims it could be difficult for the Gunners to lure him mid-season. Nevertheless, the signing of £50 million has fallen down the pecking order under Mikel Arteta and the Toffees are expected to pounce should he be allowed to leave on a loan basis.

Described as “huge” by the SpaniardWhite has made 12 appearances in all competitions this season, grabbing just one assist against Brentford in a 2-0 win.

He is unlikely to be Arsenal’s main man any time soon due to Jurrien Timber’s imperious form, but the 28-year-old’s experience and know-how would be an ideal solution to what has become a problematic position over the years for Everton, particularly due to Seamus Coleman’s frequent injuries.
