Tottenham Hotspur are expected to step up their efforts to sign a “fantastic” new defender, amid uncertainty surrounding Radu Dragusin’s future.
Dragusin only recently made his return after a long injury absence, coming on as a late substitute in the 1-0 win over Crystal Palace, but he has been unable to retain his place in the team, being on the bench for the past three years. Premier League games.
As such, the Romanian’s future in North London is up in the air, with Fabrizio Romano recently revealed he wants to leave Tottenham, after reaching a “deal” with Serie A side AS Roma.
Of course, Thomas Franck already had Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero at his disposal in central defense, while Kevin Danso is able to step in as a back-up option when needed.
However, with Dragusin’s future up in the air, it would make sense to introduce an additional option at the back, and Spurs have now joined the race for a Serie A defender.
This is according to a report from Caught Offside, which indicates Tottenham set to step up pursuit of Sassuolo star Tarik Muharemovic at the end of the season, but there could be competition for his signature.
Manchester United, Newcastle United and a number of other European clubs are keen on the centre-back, with RB Leipzig preparing a bid of €25 million (£22 million) plus bonuses, although it is unclear whether that would be enough to entice the Italian club to sell.
Sassuolo are reluctant to allow a mid-season departure, but they expect a bidding war when the summer transfer window opens.
Dragusin has struggled to force himself into Frank’s plans, having failed to come off the bench in recent weeks, but there are signs that the Sassuolo centre-back may be able to challenge Van de Ven and Romero for a place in the starting XI.
The Bosnian’s excellent defensive qualities have been consistently demonstrated over the past year, while his offensive prowess has been on display in Serie A this season, with two goals and two assists.

Not only has the 22-year-old impressed at club level this season, but he has also received praise for his performances for Bosnia from scout Jacek Kulig.
Muharemovic is a good age to enjoy long-term success at Tottenham, and with Dragusin’s future uncertain, it would be a smart move to bring in a new central defender.
