De La Hoya Repeats 60 40 Demand For Ortiz Ennis

Oscar De La Hoya has reiterated that Vergil Ortiz Jr will only fight Jaron Boots Ennis on a 60-40 split, with 5 percent reserved for the winner.

De La Hoya posted that he wants the fight to happen quickly and has pushed the idea of a March date. He also said Ortiz has other routes if Team Ennis doesn’t agree with the numbers.

Eddie Hearn has disputed the need for a new offer. Hearn said he had already met with Golden Boy and DAZN and reached a 50/50 deal. He said Ennis signed his side of that deal, while Ortiz did not.

De La Hoya’s position constitutes a radical shift in leverage. Ennis has held full world titles at welterweight, while Ortiz’s major belt so far is the WBC interim title at 154. Ortiz won that belt in 2024 on a majority decision over Serhii Bohachuk. Bohachuk scored two knockdowns, and many fans felt the score should have gone the other way.

It is in this context that the split provokes reactions. A 60 40 line can be sold when one side owns the belt and the market. This is a fight based on risk and reputation. Ortiz plays at 154. Ennis is the most proven champion on paper, and he brings his own audience and potential.

De La Hoya also uses public language that forces Hearn to pick up the phone and accept the offer. This is a useful message if the fight does not take place. Golden Boy can show the number and say he was there all along. Hearn can point to the earlier deal and say the terms were changed after Ennis signed.

If both sides really want Ortiz vs. Ennis, the split will end almost evenly, as neither man is so far ahead that he can’t demand a tribute. Right now, De La Hoya is selling certainty, but it looks more like a bluff than a deal.
