Dominik Szoboszlai scored a superb long-range strike to put Liverpool leading against Barnsley in the FA Cup third round.
League One Barnsley had made an excellent start at Anfield, hitting the post with a Davis Keilor-Dunn header with less than 30 seconds on the clock to send some scares across Merseyside.
Tykes’ Reyes Cleary also got on the wrong side of Virgil van Dijk and put a teasing cross into the box and it looked like the third tier were set to add another upset to the FA Cup third round weekend.
But Szoboszlai stepped in to put those early hopes to bed by opening the scoring with perhaps the third round goal.
Collecting the ball from Alexis Mac Allister, the Hungarian midfielder had too much space as he released a diving effort which flew into the top corner.
It was the Liverpool midfielder’s sixth goal of the season and the latest in a long line of long-range strikes.
