Hosts extend lead in Saudi Pro League title race despite Ronaldo goal

A Cristiano Ronaldo the goal was not enough to stop Al-Nassr lose further ground in the Saudi Pro League title race by losing 3-1 to the leaders Al-Hilal.

Ronaldo opened the scoring with a neat finish just before half-time to momentarily put his side within a point of their rivals, but three goals from the hosts after the break completed a huge victory for the hosts.

Salem Aldawsari leveled the score from the penalty spot with just under an hour to play after Malcom was brought down in the box, before a post-kick melee resulted in goalkeeper Nawaf Alaqidi being sent off for two yellow cards in quick succession.

The momentum was with Al-Hilal from that point on, but they had to wait until the 81st minute to find the crucial breakthrough, with Mohamed Kanno pushing in a delicious cross from Ruben Neves to complete the comeback.

And victory was sealed in added time when Neves turned from passer to scorer, wrong-footing the goalkeeper with a penalty driven hard and low into the bottom corner.

This victory leaves Al-Nassr behind their rivals by seven points after 14 matches played.
