The American cricket team received a big shock just before the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2026 in India and Sri Lanka. Pakistan-born American star fast bowler Ali Khan has revealed that his Indian visa has been refused, meaning he may not be able to travel with the team for the tournament.
The situation is even worse for the United States as Ali Khan is not the only one facing difficulties in obtaining an Indian visa for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2026, which begins on February 7. The visa applications of Shayan Jahangir, Ehsan Adil and Mohammad Mohsin are said to have been refused.
Your daily dose of cricket!
This worried the American camp, as the T20 World Cup was fast approaching and they were hoping to participate with a full squad. Ali is one of their key bowlers, so losing him could seriously hurt the team. If these experienced players cannot make it to India, the United States’ chances of succeeding in the showpiece event will take a big hit.

Several international teams are reportedly facing a major visa issue. Cricketers holding Pakistani passports or of Pakistani origin are said to face difficulty in obtaining permission to travel to India, which has played a key role in the delay in finalizing squads for some teams.
Besides the United States, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Italy and Canada have all been affected by Indian visa delays. They are yet to finalize their squads for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2026. Officials of these teams have sought help from the ICC, but the issue is yet to be resolved, leaving players and team management worried about last-minute disruptions.

However, visa delays are nothing new in global cricket tournaments, but the ICC, cricket boards and organizers are now under pressure to ensure all players can travel and participate on time. These visa issues could have a real impact on the teams’ performances during the Super 12 and Super 8 stages.
Meanwhile, Team USA is in Group A alongside India, Pakistan, Netherlands and Namibia for the upcoming marquee event. They will begin their campaign against hosts India on February 7 at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
The USA team will next face Pakistan on February 10 at the Sinhalese Sports Club Cricket Stadium in Colombo, followed by the Netherlands on February 13 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Their final league match of the T20 World Cup 2026 will be against Namibia on February 15 in Chennai.

The United States made its T20 World Cup debut in the last edition of the tournament in 2024. In its first appearance in the T20 World Cup, it made history by reaching the Super 8 stage. Before 2024, the American team had participated in several T20 World Cup qualifiers but had never reached the main tournament.
