“Penultimate day of radiation!” Hoover, 46, wrote on a photo of herself in a hospital gown that was shared with her Instagram Stories on Monday January 12. She noted that she was undergoing radiation therapy at Texas Oncology.
She added, “I wish I could blame my hair and facial expressions on @texas.oncology, but they were pretty awesome. I hope you never need them, but I highly recommend them.”
Hoover has not publicly revealed what type of cancer she has, but has shared updates on her diagnosis in recent months.
In December 2025, Hoover announced via her Facebook page that she had been diagnosed with an unspecified form of cancer, according to a screenshot posted to Instagram by the content creator. Katyincck.
Hoover wrote that she spent much of 2025 filming the upcoming film. film adaptation of his novel Reminders of him in Canada and “I had recurring health problems that I continued to put off until the end of the film.”

“When I got home, I found out I had cancer,” she said.
Hoover wrote that the cancer had been “surgically removed” and that she would additionally undergo radiation therapy.
“Even though it seemed huge and scary for a while, and I must have missed the Regret you premiere, and a few other important professional and personal moments, that I just wasn’t ready to share with anyone until I knew what the outcome would be,” she posted.
In October 2025, Hoover shared with her Instagram subscribers that she would miss promotional activities for Regret youthe second of his books to be adapted for the big screen. The film, starring Mckenna Grace, Mason Thames, Dave Franco And Allison Williamswas released that month.
“So sad to miss the release and premiere of this film, but so grateful to all the cast and crew who put this together,” the author shared with her followers at the time.

Hoover shared another update on Friday, January 9. Facebook post, writing, “I received the results from the geneticist today that said my cancer did not come from family genes. It also did not come from the two main causes of cancer, which are HPV and excessive hormones.”
“That means it’s more than likely environment/lifestyle, i.e. lack of exercise, poor diet, and stress,” said the author, who found herself in the crosshairs of a dispute between It ends with us director and actor Justin Baldoni and the leading lady of the film, Blake Livelysince 2024.
“I’m happy and grateful to be alive, but I hate vegetables. I hate when I have to get off the couch. I hate sweating,” she continued. “I hate when science is right. If you see me at the gym, don’t even tell me you did a good job. If you see me at a restaurant eating grilled chicken and drinking water, I’m probably really angry.”
Hoover’s upcoming book-to-screen adaptation, Reminders of himis scheduled to be released on March 13. A film adaptation of Truth featuring Anne Hathaway should be released in October.
The author will also publish his latest novel, Woman on the groundon Tuesday January 13.
