Pakistan pacer Hassan Ali found himself in a dramatic moment on the field during the 34th match of the ongoing Big Bash League 2025-26 (BBL 2025-26) between Melbourne Stars and Adelaide Strikers at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in Melbourne.
A routine stop turned into a frustrating moment and a costly mistake for both Hassan Ali and the Adelaide Strikers on Tuesday January 13. The Pakistani pacer first misjudged the ball, allowing it to go past him when it should have been stopped cleanly, and then wasted another opportunity by gifting a boundary.
The incident occurred during Melbourne Stars’ 8th run chase in the crucial BBL 2025-26 clash at the MCG. Tabraiz Shamsi threw a full ball outside off stump to Thomas Rogers. The batter stepped forward and played a clean drive, hitting the ball away from extra cover.

The shot headed quickly towards the boundary. Hasan lined up deep behind the sweepers and had a long distance to cover. He pursued the ball fiercely and first tried to stop it with his right hand, but missed. Realizing the ball was still heading towards the boundary, he then dived desperately to remove it. However, during the dive, the ball hit the boundary boards.

Because of this, the on-field umpires weren’t sure if it was a four or if Hasan had saved it in time. Well, the decision was sent upstairs to the third umpire. After checking the replays, the third official confirmed that the ball had hit the boards. Since the ball came into contact with the boundary, Rogers got four runs.

In the meantime, Tom Curran ended the Adelaide Strikers’ playoff hopes with his remarkable bowling performance and kept the Melbourne Stars alive in the race for the 2025-26 BBL final. He delivered the best bowling performance of his career in T20 and completely destroyed the Strikers’ batting line-up.
Curran was exceptional with the new ball, using perfect length and movement to trouble every batter, and returned with superb figures of 4/10 in his four overs. Mitchell Swepson also supported him well by taking three wickets as Adelaide Strikers were bowled out for just 83 runs in 19.3 overs, which is their second lowest total in BBL history.

The Strikers struggled from the start. They lost early wickets, couldn’t hit boundaries in the powerplay and kept playing poor shots under pressure. Their lower-order hitters completely failed and the innings quickly fell apart.
Chasing a small target, Melbourne Stars played cautiously as the pitch at the MCG was not easy for batters. Tom Rogers scored 32 points and helped guide the chase. Stoinis also contributed to an unbeaten 23. But just before the victory, he was hit hard on the right thumb by a fast delivery and he left the field. The stars still won the match by six wickets and kept their hopes alive for the final.
