Valentin Vacherot will face Thanasi Kokkinakis in the second round of the 2026 Adelaide International on Wednesday, January 14.
Vacherot beat Miomir Kecmanovic 7-6(5), 6-4 in the round of 16 to record his first victory in 2026. The Monegasque had already been eliminated in the first round against Sébastien Korda in Brisbane. Vacherot is fifth in Adelaide and is one of the top contenders to win the third ATP 250 title of the season and gain momentum ahead of the Australian Open.
Vacherot makes headlines at Shanghai Masters last season he entered qualifying and won the ATP 1000 title, beating his cousin Arthur Rinderknech in an epic final. He also beat top players Holger Rune and Novak Djokovic in Shanghai, Cameron Norrie and Jiri Lehecka in Paris, to enter the top 30 in the singles rankings.
Thanasi Kokkinakis, meanwhile, defeated Sebastian Korda 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(3) in the first round to announce his return to the court after almost a year. The Australian missed the majority of the 2025 season due to pectoral surgery and is ranked 670th in the world. Kokkinakis is a winner in 2022 and reached the quarter-finals at the FIFA World Championship. Adelaide International last season.
Vacherot and Kokkinakis face each other for the first time on the circuit, the head-to-head record therefore remains 0-0.

Thanasi Kokkinakiswho was ranked No. 71 at the start of 2025, showed signs of full recovery by stunning Sebastian Korda in a comeback victory in the round of 16. However, the 29-year-old also suffered a slight shoulder problem on his return. Kokkinakis appeared to be in pain and was seen receiving medical treatment on the sidelines of the Memorial Drive Tennis Centre.
Meanwhile, Vacherot looks in great shape, both physically and mentally, as he dominated former world number 27 Miomir Kecmanovic in the final round. Vacherot will likely take advantage of Kokkinakis’ fresh injuries and record an easy win to advance to the quarter-finals in Adelaide.
