Taylor Sheridan has become the Paramount+ whisperer, it seems. Not only is the streaming service home to the creator’s entire “Yellowstone” extended universe, but Sheridan has also created other hit shows for the streamer. The most recent? “Landman,” an oil drama that Sheridan won over from Billy Bob Thornton What’s interesting, after two seasons, is that the series is actually condensed into a fairly short period of time.
The series is set in the heart of Texas, a place where thugs and billionaires try to get rich quick in the oil industry. Thornton plays Tommy Norris, a struggling executive trying to propel his company to the top during the oil boom. Tommy’s son Cooper Norris is played by Jacob Lofland, and the actor has now provided some context regarding the timeline of “Landman” season 2 (which partly explores theft in the oil industry).
In an interview Lofland gave to The Hollywood Reporterit is explained that season 1 of “Landman” only takes place over 10 days. Based on this, Lofland explained that season 2 covers more or less the same area. As he said:
“We talked about it. We never really did the math throughout the season. [as we were filming]. But after [we finished] and I mentioned it, it’s probably 10 to 15 days. There’s probably a six-week gap between seasons, so we’ve known the characters for two or three months. »
What’s interesting is that shows like “Landman” take a while to produce, but they don’t necessarily operate on the same in-universe timeline. The show has actually been around for a few years, but it’s only been a few months for the Norris family and everyone else. For now, however, it remains to be seen how this will factor into the upcoming third season.
Billy Bob Thornton said he was willing to stay on ‘Landman’ as long as Taylor Sheridan wanted him to it must be okay. It therefore seems that he has no intention of leaving. Paramount also seems happy to keep the train moving, as Sheridan’s production has essentially propped up Paramount+ at this point. Jacob Lofland, meanwhile, is very excited to see where things go when the series returns. To quote Lofland from that same THR interview:
“I’ll tell you personally, I can’t wait to go back and start Season 3. I can’t wait. I’m so looking forward to it because of where we left off. The first episode is going to be great. I haven’t read anything, I have no idea what’s going to happen. But I know it’s going to be great just because of the setup we have coming out of Season 2.”
As for Sheridan, he is currently busy with the various spin-offs of “Yellowstone” and his many other shows. At the same time, he’s already on the verge of leaving Paramount for NBCUniversal in a few years. It remains to be seen how much of an impact this will have on the many series he makes with Paramount. Until then? Apparently it’s full steam ahead.
