Three young people The Ohio Boysled by an 11-year-old child at the wheel, led police on a chase in a car reported stolen before crashing into a house, sparking concerns about the crime’s impact on Santa’s visit, authorities said.
The chase began Saturday afternoon when a license plate reader alerted Newburgh Heights police officers about a Mazda 3 reported stolen in the area, according to a police report.
When an officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the driver of the vehicle fled the scene. The car eventually crashed into a nearby house and the three boys inside, ages 8, 11 and 12, fled on foot, police said.

The children were quickly caught. The home suffered minor damage, according to the report.
Police body camera footage shows two boys standing near what appears to be a garage as an officer orders them to lie down. The third boy is seen from a distance and walks towards his friends after being ordered to do so.
The children were heard cowering in fear.
“I’m sorry,” one boy is heard saying. “Can you call my mother?”
“Are we going to jail?” A boy is heard asking before being told that all three would be detained. “Oh my God.”
At one point, a police officer escorts the 12-year-old to a police car.

“You’re 12 years old…you’re stealing cars,” the officer is heard saying. “What’s wrong with you?”
When questioned by investigators, the boys said they were on their way to a store when they spotted a vehicle, authorities said. One boy reportedly said that “something happened to his body and he couldn’t control it, he needed to take the car” says a police report.
They said they learned how to steal cars by watching videos on YouTube, police said. After their arrest, the boys worried about the impact it would have on their vacation, police said.
“All three boys stated that they knew right from wrong and admitted that what they did was wrong,” the report states. “While they were in our care, they were worried about the impact it would have on Santa coming to bring them presents.
