“It was like being under house arrest”: Tanzanian opposition fears growing repression




Following deadly protests that erupted during Tanzania’s October 29 elections, a new wave of protests planned for Independence Day on December 9 was foiled by a heavy police presence. Tanzanian opposition members and lawyers now fear a further escalation in government crackdown on dissent.
