More foggy driving, then a really long group ride on a nice day – BionicOldGuy

The cold and fog I mentioned last week persisted, but I still had some good riding. Also, last week Costco had a good sale on GoPro Hero 13 cameras, so my wife bought me one as a Christmas present and I tried it out on a few rides. I like it because it has voice activation and is therefore hands-free. I tried photos and videos. Photos look great and you can also extract good still images from video footage. But I have to raise my camera mount because it catches my phone and my handlebars in the photo. It’s easy to change this for still images but not for videos. I also need to get good at video editing so I can extract short clips. So in this article I will just show some still photos.

Sunday I took a long walk on a particularly foggy day. The cars were barely visible, just dim headlights in the fog. I was also afraid that if someone was driving with their headlights off, I wouldn’t see them at all. So I headed towards the Coyote Creek Trail. By the time I received them, visibility had improved so I could see pedestrians and other cyclists quite well.

Yesterday my group took a walk in the hills east of Gilroy, starting at the top of Roop Road at the Mendoza Ranch entrance to Harvey Bear Park. I usually carpool this trip with a friend, taking my standing position. But I had neck problems during long upright rides, so I decided to leave home on my recumbent bike, carrying extra batteries. This made for a long drive, 4 and a half hours in total. The good thing was that it was sunny as soon as I left the house.
