“Fourteen victims, ages 62 to 95, reported hiring Brian Michaud, operating as RedFin Construction, to repair damage caused by Hurricane Milton,” the release said. says the police.
“Bank statements, contracts and check copies indicated that the victims made deposits totaling $222,000 for aluminum repairs to their carports, porches, roofs and sheds. However, Michaud did not complete any of the work.”
In the press release about the investigation, police say they also revealed that the man was not a licensed contractor in the state and was using another company’s license.
“Financial subpoenas from October 2024 to April 2025 indicated that Michaud made multiple transactions and transfers between multiple business and personal accounts,” the press release states.
“Meanwhile, the subpoenas indicated Michaud spent over $53,000 at casinos and used these accounts for daily expenses and recreational expenses. Although some transactions indicate that Michaud made construction-related purchases, he did not use these materials to complete any of the victims’ projects.
Michaud faces the following charges, all of which remain alleged: ten counts of presenting another’s contractor’s license during a declared state of emergency, one count of conspiracy to defraud ($50,000 or more), one count of embezzlement of construction funds ($100,000 or more), and one count of aggravated white-collar crime against an elderly victim ($50,000 or more).
The man is currently being held without bail at the Manatee County Jail and the investigation continues. Police asked people to contact Detective Carpenter if they have a similar complaint against Michaud or RedFin Construction.
