Moscow — Three people, including two police officers, were killed in an explosion in Moscow on Wednesday, Russian investigators said, just days after an explosion. a car bomb killed a high-ranking general nearby.
The two traffic police officers were approaching a “suspicious individual” when an explosive device detonated, Investigative Committee spokeswoman Svetlana Petrenko said in a statement. The two officers, as well as another person who was nearby, died from their injuries.
Investigators and forensic experts were working at the scene, Petrenko said.

The incident took place in the same district of the Russian capital where Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov was killed by a car bomb on Monday morning.
Sarvarov, head of the Operational Training Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, died when an explosive device detonated under his vehicle in southern Moscow.
Investigators said Ukraine could be behind the attack, which was the third of its kind to kill a senior army officer in just over a year.
On December 17, 2024, Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, head of the military nuclear, biological and chemical protection forces, was killed by a bomb hidden on an electric scooter outside his building. Kirillov’s assistant also died. Ukrainian security services claimed responsibility for the attack. An Uzbek man was quickly arrested and charged with Kirillov’s murder on behalf of Ukrainian security services.
In April. another senior officer of the Russian army, Lieutenant General Yaroslav Moskalik, deputy head of the main operational department of the General Staff, was killed by an explosive device placed in his car parked near his apartment building, just outside Moscow. The alleged perpetrator was quickly arrested.
