Amy Poehler‘s ‘Good Hang’ podcast attracts a continuing series of A-list celebrity guests – but Martha Stewart probably won’t show up anytime soon.
Poehler, 54, joked while interviewing a colleague Saturday evening live alum Ana Gasteyer Tuesday December 23 episode that she is too afraid to interview Stewart, 84, because of years of SNL impressions that mock Stewart’s mannerisms.
“Martha, I’m not going to invite you on the show because I’m too scared, but please listen and know that you’re something else,” Poehler joked as she and Gasteyer, 58, brainstormed how to perfect a Stewart impersonation.
While Poehler and Gasteyer revealed they were both “obsessed” with the culinary queen, the two men, who were SNL classmates in the early 2000s said a still mouth was essential to emulating Stewart’s on-camera presence.
“When we do Martha, what do we do with her lips? And how do we speak?” Poehler asked Gasteyer, who said Stewart was “very aware of how the camera was going to look at her.”
Poehler joked, “It’s a mouth that barely moves…we’re going to make a Christmas dinner and almost nothing will move.” »

During the July 15 episode, featuring comedian Cole SchoolPoehler and Escola, 39, discussed his adoration for Stewart, prompting jokes from both men.
“I want to serve cold mashed potatoes to a dying Martha Stewart,” Escola joked. “This is my dream dinner. Her last bite. I could say, you know, I served Martha her last bite.”

Stewart opened up about how others impersonated her during a January appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Fallon, 51, addressed the subject, pointing out that Stewart had been impersonated “nine times” on SNL by former and current castmates including Poehler, Gasteyer, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Rachel Dratch and guest hosts Janeane Garofalo And David Spade.
“That’s my favorite,” Stewart said, pointing to a photo of Spade, 61, while he played a role in SNL. “He was wearing my poncho. The real poncho.”
She also confirmed that she enjoys looking at impressions of herself, telling Fallon: “I love it. Imitation is the highest form of flattery. You might as well be imitated.”
Fallon also asked if Stewart would ever want to be a guest host on NBC’s live show, to which she joked that she once put her hand up for the gig despite some awkward timing on her part. “I wanted it and they asked me as I was coming out of Alderson, this camp I was in for a while, and my parole officer didn’t give me time to do it,” Stewart told Fallon, who laughed along with his audience. “I had the right to leave my house eight hours a day. That bastard [the parole officer]. I’m so upset. Maybe one day. I would be amazing.
Stewart’s remarks about Alderson referred to his five months incarceration at the Alderson federal prison camp which lasted from October 2004 to March 2005. She was placed behind bars on charges including conspiracy and obstruction of justice in connection with an insider trading scandal.
