France denounces US visa ban as row over European ‘censorship’ intensifies

France on Wednesday condemned the U.S. visa ban imposed on Thierry Breton, a former European Union commissioner who helped craft landmark online regulations that Washington says censor free speech and unfairly target U.S. tech giants. The Trump administration on Tuesday imposed visa bans on Breton, one of the architects of the EU’s digital services law, and other anti-disinformation activists who it said were involved in censoring US social media platforms. The visa bans underscore growing differences between Washington and some European capitals on issues including free speech, defense, immigration, far-right politics, trade and the Russia-Ukraine war.
