Verónica Garcia, a transgender competitor, participated in the competition in the 400 -meter races for girls during the Washington The state’s outdoor season in 2025 and finished first in the state championships on Saturday.
Garcia, who participates in East Valley High School in Spokane, won the title in race 2A for the second consecutive year. Garcia finished first at the 2A Greater Spokane League Championship District on May 23 and won several other regular season races during the year.

Saturday, Garcia said The Seattle Times There were huts of the crowd that did not agree that biological men should compete with girls in sport. However, Garcia retaliated with a provocative message after the end of the race.
“I’m going to be honest, I’m looking at that,” Garcia told the point of sale. “But that may not have their planned effect. It made me angry, but not angry as in, I wanted to abandon, but angry as in, I will push.
“I’m going to put this in the most PG-13 way. I’m just going to say that it is damned to do something else that they have nothing else to do. I hope they get a life. But well. It just shows who they are as people.”
Garcia finished with a time of 55.70, more than a complete second faster than the second place which succeeded at 56.75.

Garcia also won a state championship last year and complained about lack of sports other competitors.

The representative assembly of the Washington Inteerscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) proposed two amendments to its policies earlier this year which would keep the sports of girls to organic women only and potentially offer an open division if the student-athletes were interested.
The proposals were only advisory votes and no modification of the rules were made. Washington officials warned that any proposed change would violate state law.

The Washington State law forces local educational agencies to allow transgender students to participate in interscoad sports “which align themselves most closely with their gender identity”, according to the WIAA.
