Aiden Markram on the pressure ahead of SA20 season 4

Aiden Markram spoke about managing rising expectations and the added pressure of fighting for a title ahead of SA20 Season 4. The Durban Super Giants captain says the pressure that comes with winning is healthy.

The SA20 season will begin on December 26. Defending champions MI Cape Town will begin their title defense with a clash against the Durban Super Giants. On December 27, Pretoria Capitals will begin their campaign against Joburg Super Kings.

Markram under pressure

Speaking in the JioStar newsroom, Markram said: “It’s a healthy pressure that comes with winning two titles with the Sunrisers Eastern Cape and now joining the Durban Super Giants, who expect success – you can’t escape it. The franchise has been to a final before, with a strong coaching staff, management know-how and good foundations already in place. As captain, adding value to reach the knockout stages of final, a final and lifting a trophy is what you will remember. If extra pressure arises, you have to do it, do your best and see where it leads in the end.

“Provide the best platform to perform”

SA20 League Commissioner Graeme Smith spoke about the key objectives for the continued growth of the SA20 tournament.

“We have worked hard to dominate the December-January-February window and completely own it, successfully reaching our current levels. Seeing fans return to South African cricket with large crowds is a highlight for us. The main focus remains on providing players and teams with the best platform to perform well and strengthen South African cricket in the future.”

“In terms of metrics such as viewership and global reach, we have achieved incredible numbers, establishing ourselves as the biggest league outside India. Commercially, we have grown from strength to strength, attracting strong partners for years to come. When traveling around the world, cricket fans are delighted to see South Africa the vibrancy, the competitive games and the summer fun on TV – these elements need to shine again as we grow from year to year,” Smith said.
