“I would say we got closer when she went to college and I started playing professionally,” Clayton said in an interview with Resurrected magazine. “We both discovered things on our own. I think it’s really helped our relationship now. As for when she became the one? I really don’t know. I guess somewhere late in high school or early college.”
Ellen was sure to be in the stadium when he made his Major League debut. She reflected on that moment in a video shared by the Dodgers in 2025 when Clayton recorded his 3,000th career strikeout.
“I remember your very first strikeout and we were panicking, screaming in our same section like always…cheering for you,” she said.

Cali grew up around the Dodgers, with Clayton revealing that she “loves going to the stadium” because it means she could play with other players’ kids.
Like Ellen, she also had a message for Clayton when he had 3,000 strikeouts.
“Dad, I’m so proud of you…you were getting strikeouts long before I was born,” she told her father. “I’m so happy you got 3,000 strikeouts.”
