The IBF has granted an extension to negotiations between Richard Torrez and Frank Sanchez for a commissioned heavyweight final eliminator.
The two sides had initially set until December 17 to reach an agreement. According to The Ring, the IBF has now extended the negotiation period until January 6. If an agreement is not reached by that date, the fight will move to a purse bid.
Sanchez is ranked No. 3 by the IBF. He is looking to recover from a seventh-round stoppage loss to Agit Kabayel in May last year, a fight in which he was dropped twice. Sanchez returned to action in February with a third-round TKO victory over Ramon Olivas Echeverria.
Torrez is ranked No. 4 by the IBF. The 2020 Olympic silver medalist has remained active this year with victories over Tomas Salek and Guido Vianello.
In recent months, Moses Itauma, Efe Ajagba and Filip Hrgovic have all turned down opportunities to face Sanchez, according to previous reports.
No further action is expected before the January 6 deadline.
