The Consumer Electronics Show is never short of ambitious ideas, but Smartlet is perhaps one of the most unusual this year: a modular watch strap that allows you to simultaneously wear a traditional mechanical watch and a smart watch on the same wrist. On top of each other.
The Paris-based startup announced Smartlet at CES 2026 in Las Vegas, pitching it as a solution for people who like the look of an analog watch but also want the practicality of an analog watch. smart watch for notifications, fitness tracking and mobile payments. Instead of choosing between the two, the Smartlet system lets you mount an old-fashioned watch on the front of your wrist while hiding a smartwatch or fitness tracker on the underside.

The stainless steel bracelet starts at $418 and does not include a smartwatch or mechanical watch. What you’re actually buying is the wristband system, which is compatible with most major smartwatches and fitness trackers, including Apple Watch, Samsung Galaxy Watch, Google Pixel Watch, Garmin models, Fitbit charging devices and Cry. On the analog side, it supports watches with lug widths of 18-24mm, which includes high-end models from brands like Omega, Tudor, TAG Heuer, and Rolex.
The idea comes from founder David Ohayon, who says he’s tired of having to play favorites every morning, choosing between his analog and his Apple Watch. Smartlet, in theory, offers the best of both worlds, allowing you to go from fitness enthusiast to refined executive with a flick of the wrist.
In practice, this raises serious questions, the most important of which is volume. Smartlet says the system adds between 9mm and 12mm of height under the wrist once a smart device is connected. For someone who already manages to scratch watches without trying, the idea of strapping a second device under my wrist, where it regularly comes into contact with desks, armrests, and table tops, seems like a walking nightmare.

There is also aesthetics. Smartlet is clearly aimed at what it calls the “modern gentleman”, with marketing language heavily inspired by luxury watch culture and phrases such as “from the boardroom to the weekend”. Translation: This is a watch aimed at wealthy men who want to show off their investment without sacrificing tracking their gym gains.
And while it might not be the most practical or cost-effective solution for most people, Smartlet is one of those very niche and remarkable products that made us do a double take at this year’s CES.
