Liverpool legends take on the shooting power challenge

Few footballers have ever kicked a ball like former Liverpool duo Steven Gerrard and John Arne Riise – Gerrard with his thundering right foot, Riise with his cannon left.

Both are remembered for their iconic goals: Gerrard’s stoppage-time rocket in the 2006 FA Cup final and Riise’s unstoppable free-kick against Manchester United in 2001.

But after years of debate over who actually made the more powerful shot, the two Reds legends finally put it to the test – and Riise came out on top.

The competition took place the day before Nexon Icons legends match at seoul world cup stadium. The two groups of players competed in a series of challenges, including one in which Gerrard and Riise threw balls at a specially constructed prop lined with stacked leaves designed to test raw power.

Riise’s strike proved the strongest, clearing the entire obstacle and drawing gasps from the South Korean crowd. Gerrard’s effort, while still powerful, was only halfway successful.

The moment sparked huge cheers – and laughter – from players and fans. Riise later shared the images on Instagram with the caption: “Memories made today. The reception we’re getting from fans in Korea is crazy!” Gerrard responded in good humor, dropping a simple laughing emoji.

As for the exhibition match itself, it was once again Riise who had the last laugh. His team of legendary defenders beat Gerrard’s attacking team 2-1, thanks to late goals from Maicon and Jooho Park.

Riise 2, Gerrard nil.
