Former WCW wrestler Disco Inferno recently shared his thoughts on CM Punk. The star is currently the RAW World Heavyweight Champion.
Punk returned to WWE at Survivor Series 2023 after a ten-year hiatus. Since his return, he has become one of the top babyfaces in the company. He won the world heavyweight title at SummerSlam by defeating Gunther, but his reign only lasted a few minutes when Seth Rollins cashed in his Money in the Bank contract. Punk finally reclaimed that gold during Saturday Night’s Main Event, defeating Jey Uso for the vacant World Heavyweight Championship.
Thanks for the submission!
In a recent episode of Keep it 100Inferno responded to a fan’s claim that Punk doesn’t draw as champion. He said The Best in the World was a great professional wrestler and could pull off great promos. The wrestling veteran added that Punk was working on the classic WWE style and was one of the most popular stars on the current roster.
Inferno admitted fans might destroy the Straightedge star for his UFC career, but his numbers prove he remains a huge box office draw.
“I like Punk, he’s the world champion because he gives a great promo and knows how to sell his matches. He goes out there and wrestles a very logical WWE style match. He’s a great professional wrestler. I have no problem with him. He’s finished, just look at his numbers. You can knock him for the UFC stuff, but beyond that, all the stats on this guy are really good.”
During his absence from the company, CM Punk harshly criticized WWE’s tours to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Disco Inferno also talked about Punk’s deal with WWE.
“He thought that if I worked here, I should go to Saudi Arabia because that’s where I would make a lot of money. This is what we do. We don’t do this for free or out of virtue. We do it to make a living, and the living make money,” Disco said.
Earlier this year, CM Punk traveled to the country for a major championship match against John Cena at the Night of Champions. During his visit, Punk apologized to the crowd for his comments and the WWE Universe welcomed him with open arms.
