Phew! You won’t believe what this Arkansas couple allegedly did. Darien Urban And Shalene Ehlers are making headlines after authorities revealed the shocking lengths they went to in an attempt to sell their 6-month-old baby for beer and cash. The bizarre case has left locals stunned as the couple learn their fate in court. Today, people wonder how far some people will go to earn a quick paycheck or grab a drink.
According to reportsDarien Urban, 22, recently pleaded guilty to one count of attempting to accept adoption compensation. In exchange, prosecutors dropped a separate charge of endangering the welfare of a minor. Judge Brad Karren condemned the father to three years in the Arkansas Department of Corrections. Judge Karren also added an additional sentence of three years, suspended.
Shalene Ehlers, 21, the child’s mother, received a much lighter sentence. She pleaded guilty to two counts: attempting to accept compensation and endangering the welfare of the child. However, the judge differed acceptance of his plea. Instead, she was placed on state supervised probation for six years, a resolution that could clear her criminal record if she successfully completes it.
Authorities say the attempt “transaction” at the Beaver Lake Hide-A-Way Campground in Rogers, Arkansas, in September 2024, was as bizarre as it sounds. As stated previously, a couple in the campsite claimed that Urban and Ehlers “tried to give up the baby for a 6-pack of beer and then wanted $1,000 for the baby.“Investigators also obtained cell phone video and several witness accounts confirming that the parents signed a written contract with the potential buyer, Cody Nathaniel Martin, agreeing to transfer custody of the baby.
The story takes an even stranger turn with the role of alcohol. Ehlers allegedly asked another couple for beer earlier in the day. When they refused, a man named Ricky Crawford offered beer in exchange for keeping the baby for the night. Crawford, would have been drunkbecame part of the transfer that ultimately led to the Martin contract. Investigators said the actions of Urban and Ehlers created a “significant risk of death or serious injury” to the baby, who had been entrusted to strangers against the promise of beer and money. After being Mirandized, the a couple allegedly admitted to law enforcement that they planned to sell their baby, leaving investigators and the community in disbelief at the audacity of the plan.
