Ivory Coast vs Cameroon: line-up, stats and preview

Preview of Ivory Coast against Cameroon

Two of the continent’s football heavyweights face off in Group F of the Africa Cup of Nations at the Stade de Marrakech, knowing that victory would all but guarantee a place in the round of 16.

Both teams recorded victories on the opening day, with tournament holders Ivory Coast beating Mozambique 1-0 thanks to Manchester United’s Amad Diallo, while Cameroon beat Gabon by the same scoreline.

Recent results between the two teams appear to favor the Elephants, who have lost just one of the last five meetings during a run dating back to November 2014.

However, the Indomitable Lions – led by David Pagou, who took charge on the eve of the tournament – are hoping to put in a strong showing in Morocco, after failing to qualify for next summer’s World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada.

Team news for Ivory Coast vs Cameroon

Ivory Coast and Cameroon emerged from their first match of the tournament unscathed. With no further injuries, Emerse Fae may opt to stick with goalscorer Diallo and former Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha in attack.

Oumar Diakité could come into the fold from the start, while Willy Boly and Evann Guessand, both of whom remained on the bench against Mozambique, will also hope to feature among the best.

Diallo’s Manchester United teammate Bryan Mbeumo will aim to make a mark for Cameroon this campaign, while Brighton’s Carlos Baleba is also expected to keep his place in the team.
