LG will present a named CLOiD to in Las Vegas. While humanoid robotics will certainly be present at this year’s tech conference, LG has teased its home assistant ahead of its full unveiling in January.
The company says CLOiD’s two articulated arms, featuring five individually operated fingers, are designed to make various household tasks easier. However, LG has yet to give a specific example of a task that CLOiD can handle. We also don’t know what it looks like, because aside from some very close-up images of CLOiD’s hands, LG is keeping the robot’s appearance under wraps until the show.
LG said CLOiD is part of the company’s vision of “Zero Work at Home, Makes Quality Time”. The company said its robot was a step toward the company’s goal of “liberating customers from the tedious tasks of household chores.”
Housed in its head is CLOiD’s chipset, which also sports a display, speaker, camera, and a host of sensors intended to enable expressive communication. LG says its new robot is powered by its “Affectionate Intelligence” technology and is designed to interact in a neutral and friendly way. It is also designed to refine its responses through repeated interactions with a user.
CES often hosts proof-of-concept products that provide a window into the future, but may . It remains to be seen whether CLOiD is simply a means of attracting attention or something with real potential. Visitors can see CLOiD handle some real-world scenarios at LG’s booth at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
