A promising novelty Netflix the show was shaping up to be another victory for the platform – and then, this week, it was canceled.
Netflix is often too eager to hand out cancellations like candy, and unfortunately, Olympus was his last victim.
The Spanish-language show follows young athletes from the Pirineos High Performance Center and the swimming captain who believes some athletes go to extremes to be the best.
Olympus has plenty of competitive storylines and steamy sex scenes, and fans of Passionate rivalry in particular, they might find it to be their next favorite binge. Watch with us has three reasons why you should check it out.
Maybe the plot of Olympus isn’t the most well-executed thing you’ve ever seen, but that’s probably not why you’re watching it anyway, right? The YA sports series follows athletes at an elite performance center in Spain, where they face enormous pressure to stay there – and see how far they will go to achieve it. Toned, athletic bodies, huge amounts of stress, and extremely competitive streaks. What do you think this is a recipe for? Well if you saw Passionate rivalry, then you know exactly what.
Olympus definitely contains a surprising amount of borderline softcore sex scenes for a supposedly “YA” show, but that doesn’t mean we’re complaining. He do means that a coherent plot and a more complex and nuanced character are somewhat sidelined in favor of emphasizing ambitions, beauty and hormones. It helps that the young actors who play these attractive athletes give it their all and look good doing it too. We don’t need every show to be Apple TV’s excellent, thematically heavy sci-fi show, To many. We are only humans after all.

The series is incredibly energetic, propulsive, and surprising, and the stakes couldn’t be higher. As athletes at the Pirineos High Performance Center are pushed to their physical and mental limits, some athletes seek unethical ways to go even further. This is where the central conspiracy of the series comes into play.
However, the series also looks great even beyond the moment when the camera is focused on sex and skin: it features immersive production design and cinematography that makes it easy to slip into the series’ highly competitive world, further buoyed by an infectious electronic score and some recognizable needle drops. Basically, Olympus has everything you’d want in a salacious teen drama.

Agustin Della Corte as Roque Pérez in Olympo

They’re also probably not well known to American audiences: fans may recognize Augustin Della Corte, who made his acting debut last year in Netflix Snow Society, and it is accompanied by Nira Oshaia, Clara Galle, Nuno Gallego And Maria Romanillos.
However, it is Della Corte who is arguably the show’s standout performance. He plays controversial rugby player Roque Pérez, mired in scandal over his sexuality and receiving suspicious attention from a shady sportswear brand. Yet while everyone around Roque constantly makes toxic decisions, it is Roque who is the easiest to root for, while Della Corte portrays him with the necessary internal conflict and empathy. He could be next Connor Storrie Or Hudson Williams if it’s enough Passionate rivalry the fans flock to Netflix and make Olympus an unexpected streaming success.
