Gia Casey Shares What Happened Before Peyton’s Seizure

Ms Casey shared the shocking news on Christmas Day, saying in the caption that the holidays are “looking a lot different” for their family this year. She revealed her family’s world “completely stopped” when the possibility of losing one of their children became real. Gia and DJ Envy – real name Raashaun Casey – share six children, with Peyton being their youngest. The couple has been together since they were in high school and married for over two decades.

In his Instagram postGia said Peyton was suffering from the flu and strep throat simultaneously. In addition, the child had had a high fever for “several days.” However, Peyton’s pediatrician and urgent care visits resulted in the same advice that Gia and DJ Envy didn’t need to be very concerned. According to the message, parents have been informed that the flu is more aggressive in winter and can last between seven and eight days.

Gia Casey said Peyton’s condition kept her awake for six days, while her intuition told her “something was wrong.” After several nights of monitoring Pey, checking her temperature, keeping her hydrated and providing her with medication, one night went wrong.

“One night, at midnight, I looked and noticed that her body immediately stiffened, her eyes opened, and she was looking strangely up and to the left. Her arms were outstretched and her hands were in a prayer position. I thought she was having a bad dream. I tried to wake her, but it became obvious that it was not a dream. I sat her down, shook her, and patted her face several times. Nothing changed. She was completely disconnected and only making slight movements. That’s when my heart sank and I felt a fear that drained me… It was the worst moment of my life…”

Peyton is hospitalized after her health incident

Gia Casey said in her IG post that she drove 105 mph to get Peyton to the hospital in eight minutes. Doctors performed a lumbar puncture, a CT scan and an MRI, but by the next morning, Peyton’s condition had worsened. His eyes were swollen “like golf balls” and “several days and numerous tests” later, doctors concluded the child was suffering from a severe sinus infection. The infection had “infiltrated his orbital areas and the epidural fluid around his brain.”

Doctors told the parents that Peyton would need brain surgery, but that changed. “Luckily, that wasn’t the case.” Gia wrote, adding that their daughter underwent two more surgeries instead. For this reason, the celebration of Christmas with the family has been more than ever centered on the family.

“[Peyton] had to undergo two surgeries in the sinus area to drain the infiltration. We just got home a few days ago after 10 days in the hospital and Peyton is recovering. Praise God!!! 🙏🏽 So this Christmas, please keep your family close. It could have ended differently. We celebrate life. We are grateful. We are together. #TheCaseyCrew”
