Watford have unveiled a special edition kit in honor of their most famous supporter and former chairman, Sir Elton John.
Inspired by his 2017 artwork “Diamonds” greatest hits album, the shirt features a faint star design on the front, the silver Watford crest and Kelme logos, as well as the club’s retro logo. Happy hornet badge on the hem.
The collar and cuffs bear additional star detailing, while the reverse is engraved with the lyrics of one of his most iconic songs, “Your song”.
The strip – designed in collaboration with Elton himself – will be worn when the Hornets host Blackburn Rovers in the Championship.
It marks the start of celebrations to mark the 50th anniversary of the music legend’s appointment as chairman of Watford in 1976, a role in which he oversaw the club’s remarkable rise from the Fourth Division to the First.
To kick off the release, current players have recreated some of Elton’s most famous album covers in full kit. Defender Kevin Keben channeled “Jump!” with a bowler hat, while Mattie Pollock paid homage to “Rock of the Westies”.
Part music, part football, all Watford – this one is a spectacle worthy of Rocket Man himself.
