What does “非” mean? BTS’s Taehyung’s New Project V ‘TYPE非’ Sparks Fans’ Anticipation

On December 28, BTS’ official Instagram account uploaded a black and white photo of Kim Taehyung. to their history. Thanks to this, according to X users, they are hinting at his next photo book, titled In type 非. The symbol 非 is pronounced “bi”, which corresponds to the V in Hanja. The title therefore reflects its stage identity. Meanwhile, in his recent Vogue Japan cover interview, Taehyung discussed the rift between Kim Taehyung and V.

“Because it’s been a while [since I performed]being “V” still doesn’t seem familiar. I miss playing as V. I want us to release the new album soon so we can go on stage in front of ARMY again,” the K-pop idol said.

Notably, his connection with Hanja is personal. His grandfather taught him Chinese characters during his childhood. As a result, classical scripts hold deep meaning for him. Fans have noticed that historically, Koreans verified their identity using stamped seals. These seals often featured Hanja symbols. Likewise, a sigil appears on the right side of the TYPE no teaser image as well.

#Taehyung’s new photo book is called V Type 非! 非 is pronounced “bi” or “V” in Hanja, referring to Taehyung’s stage name. In his recent Vogue Japan cover story, V talks about Kim Taehyung vs. V *Hanja (漢字), referring to traditional Chinese characters used in the Korean language. Taehyung’s grandfather taught him Hanja when he was young, and V is said to have a personal connection to the classic characters. Historically, Koreans authenticated documents and signed their names using stamped seals, often incorporating Hanja symbols to represent their identity. There is such a seal stamped on the right side of the teaser of TYPE 非….👏🔥👑💜 V ARRIVES TAEHYUNG ARRIVES THE GUY BY V IS COMING #TYPE_no

This project follows his previous photo book released last year. This book focused on rest and stillness, showing V during actual breaks at work. Therefore, the photobook spanned 224 pages, even sharing personal moments with ARMY. Each chapter explored different sides of V and Kim Taehyung. Along with the book, collectibles were included, which featured a bookmark.

They also offered postcards and photo stickers. Previously the project was titled TYPE 1. Fans now draw clear contrasts. According to them, TYPE 1 I felt soft and dreamy. On the other hand, 非 suggests opposition or indefiniteness. Many interpret it as a refusal of labels. So, TYPE no signals challenge in tone.

非 is Chinese (Fei) but in Korean Hanja 非 is pronounced 비 (bi) aka V 非 can also mean Not appropriate, incorrect, opposite, uncategorized, extraordinary. So Taehyung technically made a pun with his name but also gave an overview of the concept with just one character 非

Pre-orders for V Type no will begin on December 31, 2025 at 11:00 AM KST as fans continue to theorize the meaning of V’s project.

Apparently 非 means “not to do”, “wrongdoing”, “to blame” or something to the contrary…..Is Taehyung trying to say something like “are you calling me a sinner?” I don’t know😭

From what I understand, by using 非 next to “type,” I feel like Taehyung is indicating that he doesn’t conform, that he chooses to exist outside of labels and the judgments that come with them.

Many fans believe TaehyungThe post from December 5 last year, titled “27 V2 非”, was a hidden spoiler. In hindsight, “27” can be read as December 27 and “V2” as V Type 2.0. Fans continue to praise the Winter Bear singer for his diverse and creative approach.

was type 1 showing his life as Kim Taehyung who is free-spirited, curious and now with type 非 he is showing his character V?!! i like when taehyung doesn’t reveal much and gives us the freedom to interpret as much as possible… that’s how art should be

truly impressed by the grandeur and beauty of his mind, so structured, so philosophical, so deeply sure of himself. as if it’s not a progression of concepts at all, but a progression of autonomy, and that’s what makes this whole project so powerful.

Badboy Taehyung!? Is this the concept? I don’t think it will be an album because the band’s comeback isn’t that far away, so it’s a bit hard but he’s still taehyung, anything unpredictable can happen
