From French cinema to international fame

Brigitte Bardot, French model and actress, has died at the age of 91.

After charming Paris as a teenage model, she took French cinema by storm in the 1950s.

She went on to become a global icon that directors vied to work with. But she struggled to get noticed, and after retiring she turned to supporting animal charities.

Later in life, she tarnished her reputation with a series of convictions for racial hate crimes in France and was also criticized for her homophobic comments.
