boxing champion Claressa Shields is under fire after sharing a photo of herself shopping at Louis Vuitton and flaunting a $30,000 spree inside the luxury store. While the Olympian has undoubtedly amassed a fortune from her historic $8 million contract and other seven-figure per-fight paydays, social media users were unimpressed with the 30-year-old’s flashy attitude. In fact, they urged her to act quietly and keep her finances secret.

On Instagram, Shields uploaded a carousel of images of herself shopping at a Louis Vuitton store. In one photo, the boxing icon poses with several of the luxury brand’s iconic orange bags, while in others she smiles in the mirror. Shields also shared videos and images of herself counting large sums of money, and in another she included photos of two LV receipts totaling $30,000. While Shields, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, is certainly living large, she immediately sparked backlash from some who felt the photos and videos were excessive.

Shields seemed aware of the bending in her latest post, captioned: “Tea! I’m tea, bitch. Period! That’s the message!”
However, the reception was not what she expected.
“Posting receipts was so unnecessary and weird,” one user wrote, while another said: “Millionaires don’t post receipts, boo we believe you!” A third user also criticized Shields, calling his behavior “such a young actor,” while a fourth asked where his PR team was at.
“Claressa, why are you actually posting the receipts? ” asked someone else, leading another to passionately share: “IN 2026, LET’S STOP THINKING WE HAVE TO ‘SHOW AND PROVE’ TO STRANGERS ON THE INTERNET!

Popular Instagram blog, The Shade Room, has also been reposted Shields‘ carousel, sparking further criticism from users.
“Almost $30,000 in bags but your stylist couldn’t blend your absence is crazy,” someone wrote, to which another replied, “No amount of money can faze a person.”
Other users weighed in on the ordeal, saying they appreciated the days when Shields weren’t as common.
“I really wish someone would sit this young lady down and guide her in the right direction,” someone else wrote. “It’s like she’s made money and hasn’t yet learned how to use it. There’s nothing wrong with enjoying your success, but there is a way to do it with style, class and humility.”

This isn’t the first time Shields has flaunted her wealth, considering she made a bold statement during a recent appearance on Sherri Shepherd’s talk show. When the famous actress asked Shields how she’s been managing her money since becoming famous, Shields took the moment to show off some of her designer pieces.
“I bought this Van Cleef,” she said, pointing to the dramatic necklace surrounding it. “$28,000,” she said before revealing she spent “a little $2,000” on her Gucci shoes.

Earlier this year, Shields sparked controversy after expressing her frustration with BET after losing this year’s Sportswoman of the Year award. WNBA superstar Angel Reese. “I still don’t know how I didn’t win the Sportswoman of the Year title for the [BET Awards]”, she wrote on X, “but congratulations to Angel Reese and all the other nominees. I just thought the accolades mattered.”
Users rushed to Reese’s defense, citing the player’s WNBA records and his first professional championship victory with ROSE BC of Unrivaled Basketball. “This screams loser,” someone posted. “You weren’t even 2nd, 3rd, 4th OR 5th finalist. YOU wouldn’t have won, [and] there are women on the list of nominees who have more accolades than you. »
Shields hit back at her critics, making it clear that she respected Reese. “Regarding my previous comments, I have the right to express my feelings. I was shocked that I didn’t win. … It’s good to be a competitor,” she said.

Following the controversy, Reese opened up about receiving her third Sportswoman of the Year award from BET, describing it as a “great” feeling.
“I just focus on basketball. I come to work every day and I work. I don’t complain, I don’t worry about anything else. I have bad days; I haven’t played well at all,” she said in June 2025. “I take responsibility. I come every day and try to be better than the last. I know my teammates trust me; I know they support me.”
