Hearn gives Ortiz-Ennis a 50-50 chance of that happening

“Over the past week, we’ve had several conversations with Golden Boy. Yet Vergil tweets, ‘I don’t know.’ It makes no sense,” Hearn told KGTV while publicly addressing the situation.

Hearn said that while discussions continue, he is wary of letting negotiations drag on without any tangible progress. He said the aim was to avoid prolonged talks that would ultimately lead to nothing, especially given the scale of the fight.

According to Hearn, Ortiz vs. Ennis is a major matchup with significant potential, which he believes sits alongside other high-profile fights currently being discussed at the sport’s highest level. This belief is also shared by broadcast partner DAZN, which Hearn says is putting a lot of pressure on both promotional parties to close the deal.

Despite this, Hearn offered a more cautious view when asked about the likelihood of the fight being finalized. He described the chances as “better than 50-50,” a figure that still reflects notable uncertainty given the time already spent in negotiations.

The lack of clarity has been present for months. After Ortiz’s victory over Erickson Lubin last November, the WBC interim junior middleweight champion publicly mentioned Errol Spence as his favorite opponent, calling it his “dream fight.” His coach, Robert Garcia, also offered alternative options within the division, adding to questions about Ortiz’s immediate plans.

“I believe Oscar and these guys want to make the best fights, like we do,” Hearn said, referring to Oscar De La Hoya. “We are talking, but we need some progression and we need to set that date.”
