Memphis Depay etched his name into Dutch football history last week, overtaking Robin van Persie to become the Netherlands’ all-time top scorer with his 51st and 52nd goals.
To mark this milestone, PUMA has teamed up with the striker to create the MD51 ULTRA – a limited edition model that tells the story of his journey on and off the pitch.
Built on a white base, the boots feature contrasting colorways: one in blue and black to reflect family, faith and culture, the other in orange and black to capture his footballing triumphs. Details include his famous lion tattoo, the number 10, homages to his Ghanaian roots and a nod to his mother, Cora.
But the fans won’t be able to trick them. There are only 51 pairs, each speaking directly to the people who have shaped their lives – from family to mentors and close friends.
“I was a young boy with big dreams; a lion cub became a lion on the biggest stage,” Depay said. “Becoming the Netherlands’ top men’s goalscorer is a true honor… I wanted to celebrate by giving a special token of my gratitude to the people who have helped me along my journey.”
For Depay, it’s less about hype and more about personal thanks. And for everyone? Another reminder that the man with the lion on his chest is now roaring the loudest in Dutch football history.
